The Story Behind Our Non-Alcoholic Gins
Andries BurgerTahlia Farm's non-alcoholic gin is a unique and meaningful product that captures the essence of hope, transformation and the beauty of nature. There is an amazing story behind our non-alcoholic gins.

Crafted from the prickly pear plant, each variety represents a different stage of a deeply personal journey. Pupa, made from the prickly pear leaf, symbolises a time of darkness and struggle. It reflects the period when Alicia, the farmer's wife, was diagnosed with lymphoma and found herself facing immense challenge and uncertainty: a dark place of 8-hour chemo sessions during COVID.
Morphous, from the fruit of the prickly pear, represents the phase of treatment and transformation. It signifies a time of hope and change, mirroring the metamorphosis of a caterpillar into a butterfly, and also a time of pain, like the butterfly's as it leaves the pupa.
The symbolism continues in Papillon, crafted from the prickly pear flower, which embodies the stage when Alicia completed her treatment and emerged from the darkness, much like a butterfly breaking free from its cocoon.
The story behind our non-alcoholic gin is a poignant reminder of the resilience of the human spirit, the healing power of nature, and the grace of our Heavenly Father. It is a testament to the strength and courage of those who face adversity, and a celebration of new beginnings and the beauty that emerges from hardship.
Opuntia, another variant made from the prickly pear leaf, further underscores the farm's deep connection to the land and its ability to create products that carry profound meaning.
By infusing our products with such a personal and heartfelt story, we have woven a narrative of hope, transformation and triumph over adversity. Our gins are more than beverages: they are symbols of inspiration and resilience, to be enjoyed as we celebrate life.
The labels were designed to reflect Alicia's love of butterflies.
